Introduction to Speech with Professor Ashwini Kadave
Why Bother to Create an Inclusive Syllabus?
Creating an inclusive syllabus can address issues of access and retention, and remove barriers to student success. Research shows that when students feel a sense of belonging and connectedness to their course and professor, they are more likely to succeed. Since the syllabus is the first encounter with the course and instructor, it represents an opportunity to foster connectedness right from the beginning. However, the design and tone of the traditional syllabus are at odds with this goal.
